Podcast 22 - (Solo) Dinosaurs, TV Witches & Human Rights

I wasn't able to get any guests on this week so I ranted and raved to myself! This isn't anything new, really. It's just that I did it in front of a microphone this time.

Here's where you can subscribe to My Secret Atheist PodcastITunesSoundcloud,  RSS URLYoutube.

Podcast 21 - Pastafarian Isabelle Narayana

This week's episode is an interview with Pastafarian Isabelle Narayana done right here in Montreal. I write about Isabelle's story in a previous blog post and I was lucky enough to speak with her in person to clear up some details of her story.
Narayana, who claimed to belong to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster whose members are known as Pastafarians, went to court after the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) said she couldn’t wear a colander or pirate hat in the photo. She’d shown up to renew her permit at an SAAQ office in March 2014, in full pirate attire, but was denied. Only medical or religious exceptions are allowed to the no-head-covering rule.

Here's where you can subscribe to My Secret Atheist PodcastITunesSoundcloud,  RSS URLYoutube.

SHOW NOTES
Pastafarian Isabelle Narayana went to court because she was not allowed to wear her pasta colander while getting her license photograph done at the SAAQ (Quebec DMV). The judge threw out the case, while people of other religions are allowed to wear even more concealing head coverings. In this episode, Isabelle gives some of her story that seems to have been missed by the media.

Podcast 19 - A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Skepticon

This week I have a new guest on the show - it's me! Sean McGuire is a blogger and podcaster who went to Skepticon and had a few exciting adventures along the way.

Skepticon ruled and he enjoyed every second of it! He also loved Springfield because the people were super friendly and upbeat! He'll be back next year for sure! For now though, he'd like to share with you a few of of the bumps he encountered along the way because he's just a Canadian who never travels anywhere!

Don't blame him, he doesn't travel much!

Here's where you can subscribe to My Secret Atheist PodcastITunesSoundcloud,  RSS URLYoutube.

SHOW NOTES
I had a wonderful time at this year’s Skepticon, which was the first I’ve ever attended. Still, things were a little bumpy on the way there from Montreal. In my first solo episode, I recount my cold-meds enhanced middle-of-the-night adventure to Springfield, Missouri! Please note that I really did enjoy everything about Skepticon! The conference is well worth the trip and I will be back! The people in Springfield are also amazingly friendly! This monologue is just a little side info about my eventful trip there!

Podcast 18 - Blasphemy & Secularism In Pakistan

I'm back from Skepticon and I had so much fun! I will describe this fun in detail - I hope - in future episodes or even on this blog. For now though, let's talk about blasphemy in Pakistan, shall we?

By which I am referring to My Secret Atheist Podcast, episode the eighteenth. If episodes were years of age and if podcasts had mouths and brains, MSAP would be able to take a nice drink now! (In Quebec, that is.)

Honneybadger is based in Pakistan and she writes all about secularism and other worthy causes on her Twitter and blog.

Here's where you can subscribe to My Secret Atheist PodcastITunesSoundcloud,  RSS URLYoutube.

SHOW NOTES
Honneybadger is an environmental researcher/ economist, humanist, science nerd, techno geek and blogger based in Karachi, Pakistan. We’ll discuss the draconian blasphemy laws in the country - instituted by the English during British rule - which have been maintained and extended by Muslim governments in this Islamic republic. Honneybadger will also tell us a little about censorship, the situation for secular groups, atheists and even religious minorities in Pakistan and, sadly, how things have disintegrated over the past 30 years. However, with  the internet, there is some hope for the future.

Hey all you humanoid computational device utilizers! I greet you from Skepticon 8 where I have attended at least 1.25 talks! But cheer up! It gives me time to release this week's episode of My Secret Atheist Podcast, the seventeenth.

Linda Beatty is an Australian atheist harp playing comedian - probably the only one on the planet! So listen to this awesome interview and then visit her website The Bible & Other Fairytales!

Podcast 11S - Armin Navabi - Discussing ‘3 Propositions for Atheists to Consider’

"They" attempted to infect me with alien virus using chemtrails and fluoridated water, but I survived - just barely! My sickness combined with the NSA (Illuminati tools) disrupting the Internet so as to make Skype almost unusable, nearly knocked this podcast out completely. So this episode is shorter than the others. "They" will not defeat me, oh brothers and sisters!

Give it a listen before "They" shut me down entirely! Yes, another My Secret Atheist Podcast ... podcast! You can also find mention of this in the Masonic symbols on the US dollar bill!

(Sub) Episode, the eleventh, features a short discussion with Armin Navabi from Atheist Republic!  Armin has written the fantastic short book Why There Is No God - Simple Responses to 20 Common Arguments for the Existence of God. It's been recently endorsed by Dubai Mistress JessBetter listen to the Mistress. Good enough for me!

Podcast #6 - Carolyn Hyppolite - When to Engage About Religion

Another week, another podcast. When will they ever end? Hopefully never?

Episode, the sixth, features a discussion with author and public speaker Carolyn Hyppolite (http://stillsmallvoices.net)!

Carolyn just got back from the Non Conference 2015, where she delivered a speech about how atheists need to be more vocal about challenging people's religious faith - especially when those people are trying to convert you.

SHOW NOTES

Ep 6 : Carolyn Hyppolite - When to Engage About Religion

I catch up with author Carolyn Hyppolite (http://stillsmallvoices.net/) again to discuss the topic of her speech at the recent Non Conference in Kitchener, Ontario. We talk about how she never really had her faith challenged by any atheists when she was Christian and sort of wishes she did. We talk about when it’s a good time to challenge someone’s faith in religion, how to do it and when it’s best to not come out as atheist at all.

Podcast #5 - Peachy Fiend

How do I do it? Only God knows - which means nobody.

Episode, the fifth, features a whole new discussion with Twitter celeb, spoken word and singing sensation Peachy Fiend (@PeachyFiend)!

I was going to write a blog post critiquing this article, Gimme that old-time atheism...
Most contemporary atheists get it wrong. Today’s atheism tends to stand on an absolutely self-contradictory claim: only that which can be seen can be known. (It’s a pseudo-scientific claim.) The application of this sentiment to God is simple. Because God can’t be seen, God can’t be known. The problem with the statement is simple.
Wut?

... but then I realized that it's way more fun to kick back and shoot the shit with Peachy. So, here's your homework. Read the article, maybe, and then go listen to the podcast and nod your head vigorously in agreement or disagreement. Hope you don't get whiplash.

I got my new microphone, so you'll get to hear me making my radio voice every once and awhile. I'm definitely an FM kind of guy, you'll be able to tell. And no, I'm not trying to pick you up, but it might sound that way. If that works for you, then who am I to argue?

Anyway! You can watch this episode over at Youtube or right here, below:

SHOW NOTES

Ep 5 : Peachy Fiend

In this episode we talk with Twitter counter-apologist @PeachyFiend for the first time. We do a paragraph by paragraph analysis of a bewildering article by assistant professor of theology and philosophy at Carroll College, Eric E. Hall: ‘Gimme that old-time atheism’ (http://goo.gl/rSwUp7).

Sean got his new microphone too! So he’s trying out his radio voice. Please be patient with him!

Podcast #4 - Carolyn Hyppolite

Somehow, I keep churning out weekly podcasts. This week, I'm happy to present you with my latest aural endeavor, My Secret Atheist Podcast episode 4!

Episode, the fourth, features a whole new discussion with author and speaker Carolyn Hyppolite who has written Still Small Voices: The Testimony of a Born-Again Atheist and will be appearing soon at the Non-Con near Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.

This episode is really interesting. You get to hear about some of the inside machinations of people running a pro-life (anti-abortion) pregnancy crisis center type "clinic" - among other insights from Carolyn's fascinating past!

You'll also get to hear me apologize about the lousy sound quality. I have since gotten my mic, so I hope that things will improve. The episode itself though, seems to have been cursed in several ways - including a copyright violation on the music I got off archive.org.  This had me go back to the original project file... which promptly corrupted itself. The backup also failed! So I ended up cutting a pretty cheesy Google-endorsed free song directly into the previously saved MP3! My apologies to Carolyn and everyone.

Anyway! You can watch this episode over at Youtube or right here, below:
