For me the biggest thing about goals is figuring out what the heck I actually want to do. I think lots of people have this problem. Usually once I know what the heck I want things get a little easier.
And you know, I think another piece to the puzzle is actually writing down your goals and even making them public so people can hold you to it. That's what I'm doing now. Well, these are goals related to atheism or this blog anyway.
Go to an Atheist or Skeptical Convention
This may be easy to a lot of people out there, but for me travelling is a source of some stress. I'm a homebody and even planning a trip fills me with some dread. But the first and last convention I went to in Ottawa, Eschaton 2012, was a hoot. So my first goal will be to figure out which convention I want to go to and start planning. Now American Atheists 2013 National Convention springs immediately to mind, but that takes place too close to a trip my wife is taking. Throw in a kid and that doesn't work. So I must find another.
Go to Uganda
Okay, it doesn't need to be this year but I figure I've been supporting the Kasese Humanist Primary School over in Uganda long enough now that I might want to actually drop by and visit these folks. So I want to just put this onto the radar. Even if I use 2013 to plan out a trip in 2014 it would be a major feat.
Research Starting a Charitable Organization
I keep finding myself wanting to collect hundreds of dollars for Ugandan Schools and Gardens (specific needs and projects for the school, not the school in general) and wishing I had a charity to just contribute to. I would like to build something especially for supporting the school in Uganda.
At the same time, I would like to build an organization that helps fund access to science-based special needs therapies and services for autistic children right here in Quebec. My wife and I have first hand experience with the situation right now. I can see how so many parents are reverting to the woo. In order to do either of these I need information on how to start a charity here in Quebec and Canada.
These are a few resolutions for the upcoming year. I'm writing them down and sending them off into the universe.

sounds like we are in similar shoes...
